Artist Statement

Born in Kraków, Poland in 1971, I was shaped by a city where art, architecture, and history exist in constant dialogue. Surrounded by centuries of cultural expression, I developed an early sensitivity to form, color, and narrative—an awareness that would quietly guide me long before I formally returned to the canvas. My early studies in art history and technique grounded me in classical traditions while nurturing a lifelong reverence for painters such as Bonnard and Van Gogh, whose emotive use of color and intimacy of gesture continue to influence my work.

Though my professional life led me into medicine—completing medical training and a residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by more than two decades of clinical practice—the discipline of observation remained central to both pursuits. Medicine refined my attention to detail, humanity, and nuance; qualities that now inform my artistic process as deeply as any formal training.

After a wrist injury prompted an unexpected return to painting, what began as a quiet rediscovery evolved into a renewed and deliberate commitment to the studio. Painting reemerged not simply as a pastime, but as an essential form of expression—an intuitive counterbalance to the structured precision of my medical career.

My work explores light, memory, and emotional resonance through layered color, movement, and texture. Each piece is both reflective and experiential, inviting viewers into moments that feel at once personal and universal. I approach the canvas as a space for contemplation—where observation meets feeling, and narrative unfolds through paint.

Today, my practice represents the convergence of two worlds: science and art, discipline and intuition, structure and freedom. Through this intersection, I seek to create work that is honest, immersive, and deeply human.
